About the Course
In the BS Architecture program, students engage in a combination of studio-based learning, lecture-based courses, and hands-on experiences. Here's a general description of what students can expect:
Architectural Design: Students learn to develop design proposals for various types of buildings and spaces, exploring concepts, principles, and techniques for creating functional, aesthetic, and sustainable designs. Studio courses form the core of the curriculum, where students work on design projects under the guidance of faculty members and experienced practitioners.
Architectural History and Theory: Courses in architectural history and theory examine the historical development of architecture, major architectural movements, styles, and influential architects. Students analyze architectural works within their cultural, social, and political contexts, gaining insights into the evolution of architectural ideas and practices.
Building Technology: Studies in building technology cover the principles of construction materials, structural systems, building systems (such as HVAC, plumbing, and electrical), sustainability, and environmental performance. Students learn to integrate technical knowledge into architectural design, understanding how buildings are constructed and function.
Architectural Representation: Courses in architectural representation focus on communication techniques, including drawing, drafting, rendering, modeling, and digital visualization. Students develop skills in representing architectural ideas and designs visually and graphically, using both traditional and digital tools.
Professional Practice: Studies in professional practice explore legal, ethical, business, and management aspects of the architectural profession. Topics may include architectural contracts, project management, building codes, zoning regulations, and architectural licensure, preparing students for the practical realities of working as architects.
Throughout the program, students are encouraged to develop critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and communication skills. They have the opportunity to collaborate with peers, interact with industry professionals, and participate in internships, competitions, and study abroad programs to broaden their perspective and experience.
Upon completion of the BS Architecture program, graduates may pursue careers as architectural designers, building technologists, urban designers, interior designers, project managers, or pursue further studies in architecture at the graduate level. Overall, the program provides a solid foundation for students aspiring to become architects and make meaningful contributions to the built environment.
